At least something

Perhaps I must update at least SOMETHING

This blog is not over yet. Since it is about creating stuff, mostly creative stuff, there's two videos.

I bought a Sony hd-action camcorder, a really nice toy. I like it. mostly it's fisheyish view of 120 or 170 degrees, time-lapse action and slow-motion -possibilities.

All of those, I used here in these clips

They are 6 and 8 min, both includes slo-mo takes, 2-4x-takes, time-lapses, and playing with the view.

There is some working in the dairy farm, driving two machines, feeding, cleaning, and stuff. Also a dog appears in both (first has 3 of them) and in the end of the second film, there is slo-mo video of me eating a banana as fast as I can. In the end of the second video, there's a slo-mo of an old, ugly dog eating a cookie.

Both have great bg-music, instumental ambient or (perhaps even dubstep, not sure) what you call it.

Enjoy!

Yessss

Well, the summer has been busy. I\ve had 4 days of holiday, and no hope of building the camera, so we'll just wait for winter.

I did order some carbonite stuff. I will sand the glass with it, should be perfect.

Also, I've started waxing my moustaches. They are small, but they will grow enormous.

There's been a lot of sitting in a tractor. We have now made 2000 tons of silage and spreaded 4000 tons of slurry to our fields. Those hungry bastards in our cowshed really eat it all during the next year. And more; there will be also the third harvest. It is the smallest of all three harvests. The equipment wrecks up every now and then and there is a LOT of work to do in the farm. Thought, this aint the most normal summer since there's a couple of other work projects too, but anyway. During a normal summer, it shouldn't be THIS heavy and busy. Days of work grow up to 14 hrs.

The milk is excellent, I've transformed into a data collecting milk quality troll during last year or two.

C ya soon.

Just updating

Nothing's happened to the camera for a month, it's been busy time. Harvesting silage is now over, and next bigger job is to spread 3 000 tonnes of slurry to the fields.

Like always, I don't have time to build the camera. And if I do, I'll spend it in some other way.

But since this is a blog about building something, I should mention that I'm building a slurry mixer. In the end, it weights about tonne, it is 6-7 meters long and it has 90-100cm wide propel. It will be operated by a 6-7 tonne tractor so it's kinda far away from the camera project but - made with hands. ... we'll see if I got energy to put pictures of it. I'm pretty exhausted nowadays so if there's a gap between periods of work, I'll spend it relaxing..

We'll see if I manage to put more updates before the summer is over.

Flu, spring, glass'n forks

I've been pretty disabled for a while, got a pretty annoying flu

See? Spring is coming!

There's the glass.. I used a sanding machine. It's not good, but since I've got another piece of glass waiting to be used, I'm gonna sand it properly; it means I have to get my hands on a jar of SiC..

There's lense, a raw version of front board and the hanger device with forks; yes, there's some progress..

torstai 25. huhtikuuta 2013

Some photos

The front board (?) starts to form up. Currently, I think I'll use my old enlarger's tiny bellows and lense as an objective for this camera; the tiny bellows will allow me to make fine adjustments when taking photos..

Well, there's the old Ropkeit.. I think there some evolvment might be detected.. damn it's ugly

and this! The size of the thing is GooOoood

Bellows holder

I just HAD to pretend the camera was ready, so that's what bellows + boxes will look like

Then, how shall we attach the bellows to the boxes? A frame, of course

I could stain it... would be cool..

Both the boxes have been painted to black, by the way. They need more sanding and more paint layers.

Next, the casettes. I will use the same plastic I used with the bellows, to make the casette "nest" slippery; so the wooden casette will just slide in like a.. well, I don't know

Floods

Taken with my cell phone

The floods have arisen,  snow melts and it rains. Perhaps next year, I'll be taking these photos with the Camera

Rear box part 1

The front box is almost ready so I started assemblying the rear box

If you thought the previous one was nasty, take a look at this one

Didn't find any more of them, would have needed a couple more...

And the front box had it's first layer of black paint
First I had to drill holes for bellows and the objective plate

Front box WIP

There's about 20 of those... grazy... perhaps it'll be a great front box

Front box

Today I started building the front box. VERY simple piece.

Material of choice was MDF instead of plywood. 13mm thick MDF should do. Will have a lot of mass and glue will do it's job well althought I planned to put some screws in the end to corners etc...

All 4 sides drying, perhaps this evening I could assembly them..

and where we're trying to get to:

Bellows: ready

Building the bellows almost completed now; all we need now are frames, both front and rear. the frames will be used to attach the bellows to the front and rear boxes, the hull itself.

Here's a small idea; when the camera's completed, I may perhaps see reason to make the rails longer and build smaller, apr. 40cm bellows to the front, to make the thing longer if 80-100cm is too little..

But here's the process:

Almost there..

That's the point where I almost killed my self, for Christ really..  was PRETTY tricky to attach the ends

Dad spotted me being frustrated and asked if he could do anything, and in the end, two of us managed to attach the ends.

This part was EASY, the bellows kinda WANTED to take it's final shape.

Yes, I did some photoshopping in the dog's eyes.

This should show what part goes where; the hanging device on TOP of the bellows, etc.

Bellows, part 2

250ml of glue was used today, but now there are 200 stiffeners glued to the darkener sheet.. my back hurts and I'm feeling quite dizzy (glue smells gooo-ood) so I'm not gonna put text here, just the pics..

Here: ready to start

At this point, I thought: this' gonna be funny!

Only the Simpsons could save me from this glue

Here's a funny calf I fed today. hehe, like a frog

That's it, 200 stiffeners on the sheet. The glue was used to it's final drop, so we'll need another 250 ml of it to glue the other sheet on this one and the burger's ready

Damnit

I really would have done the bellows today but the fucking glue was 60 kilometers away.

So let it be.

This weekend. I WILL assembly the bellows. Everything is set.

Bellows: stiffeners

200 stiffeners are ready

This was the biggest work with the bellows

Next, drawing stuff to the sheets with white pencil, and then lots of glue

ps. also ends of the stiffeners must be cut to 45c angle....... 400 of them... fuck this :D

Bellows, part 1 done

READY

There are strips.. a bit more work with scissors and we're ready to build some bellows

perjantai 22. maaliskuuta 2013

..the drums... in the deep..

Can't cut them all once, my wrist aches...  total of 100 meters of polypropylene to be cut... it's so painful...

torstai 21. maaliskuuta 2013

Bellows pain!! :)

Previous picture was about plans, this is about pains.

I'm now confronting a problem of hard work, cutting the stuff was not so fun at all and it requires a lot of strength to be used so we'll see how much of this shit I'm gonna ... rraargh

Plans for bellows

My evil plot of building the bellows is materializing on every breath you take

I made a plan so accurate that you can give it to a sophisticated machine in a factory and you get billion of these bellows

Well it's only a plan of principles; the decisions of the Z or D will be made when I have taken over the kitchen table with my bellows stuff

Ready to build BELLOWS

It was just amazing... on my way home from university, I decided to do a little round in a little town.. there was this fabric store, built in an old, red-bricked factory.

And there was this perfect darkening fabric and they sold a "scrap piece" (230cm x 145cm ?!) with only 20 euros.

Of course, I immediatily bought also glue.

We now have everything we need to build the bellows. Maybe I start doing something tomorrow.

Pics

I painted these pieces today. It just happened.. they're black now

The sheet of the stiffener material is quite big (it's on a bed and the piano is 88). You can see throught it but there's still cover plastic. Gotta cut it soon..and again, in your hands, it FEELS expensive, but it was not very...

Made some planning of the strips in 3D, but I eventually decided to do it the same way I did my first bellows, it works fine and looks OK as long as I do this new one with way more accuracy.. NOT gonna cut 5 different type of strips etc. There will be only one type of strips. There will be no room for accidents or my ADHD.

The hanger device: ready!

First: the strip material I previously wrote about. It sure is great. You can cut it with scissors. Fantastic. Soon I'll start cutting; the bellows are lacking only the darkening fabric and enough glue.

Went out and finished the hanger device.

You see how rusty and shitty metal transform into shiny pieces

Then they transform into a hanger device. It's so funny to use that word - hanger device. What a stupid term I have made.

The "device" in action. I'm pleased to it. It's sturdy and pretty fast to adjust. Knobs aren't supposed to be that long, there's gonna be shorter ones. I'm not sure if there will be 4 of them, I can try it with 2.

Also, I decided to paint the rails and the hanger device matt black, should make them look prettier. That shiny look of sanded metal won't last long.

Strip material found!!

Please forgive me, I get exited and write all sort of things in this "English" of mine

I found material for bellows' strips!

Earlier, I was talking about "Yeeah it's 0.28mm, yeah it's good, yeah is it too thick" .... bullshit. This polypropylene is 1mm thick.. the sheet's 2.5m3, prizing 16 euros  / m3 so this stuff was, maybe expensive, but I think it is CHEAP.

I'm now really into making bellows that last for LONG time. I don't know how long; is it 5 years, 10, 20, 50 .. ?! No idea. But using polypropylene as strips, it should be resistant for moisture; during years, I believe moisture may cause some damage if paper or paper-related materials are used.. this is only me thinking, of course. So using plastic, that is really elastic, the strips are NOT the weakest part of the bellows. Perhaps the fabric will start to crack in the corners.

I really cant make this sheet to crack, even hammering it won't do anything, and you can freely bend it, but as I believe, inside the bellows, between 2 layers of fabric, glued together, it MUST be rigid. I can now make the strips thinner, ... previously I planned that their width would be 3 cm, but perhaps it could be 2.. 3cm would mean total thickness of the strips, when bellows are collapsed, simply 30mm + fabrics; and 2 cm would mean 5cm + fabrics, so these are not bad..
